California GOP Files FEC Complaint Over Obama Visit to Grandmother

From the Washington Post:

"Perhaps the most ill-timed press release of the 2008 campaign arrived shortly after 1:30 p.m. today, sent by the Republican National Committee.

The release forwarded word that the California Republican Party filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission, in part because of a visit Sen. Barack Obama made to his dying grandmother.

" 'Obama for America violated federal law by converting its campaign funds to Senator Obama's personal use," the release stated. "Senator Obama recently traveled to Hawaii to visit his sick grandmother. This was the right thing for any grandson to do -- at his own expense -- but it was not travel that his campaign may fund." "Real Virginia"

Catching up with Virginia-related gaffes. From FiveThirtyEight: "Suppose that instead of a relatively decisive win by Barack Obama on Election Day, we instead have a very close election. Which state might the McCain campaign really, really wish that they hadn't insulted? I'll give you a hint. It's not technically a state, but rather, a commonwealth."

the dangerous threesome

McCain called Pelosi, Reid and Obama a "dangerous threesome." What a creep.

obama now to install a totalitarian dictatorship

From Think Progress:
...[Rep. Steve King (R-IA)], known for provocative, partisan remarks, suggested Obama actually could be classified as even more extreme than a socialist. King also said his party is the only one with a legitimate claim on representing freedom as Americans know it. “When you take a lurch to the left you end up in a totalitarian dictatorship,” King said. “There is no freedom to the left. It’s always to our side of the aisle.”

he denied it, but there's audio...

Warming up a crowd in North Carolina on Saturday, Republican Rep. Robin Hayes offered the diagnosis that “liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God.”

His remarks came shortly after he had said he would “make sure we don’t say something stupid, make sure we don’t say something we don’t mean.”

Hayes had followed Rep. Patrick McHenry, also a North Carolina Republican, who laid out the choice between McCain and Obama.

“It’s like black and white,” yelled someone from the crowd...

Olbermann's Special Comment on irresponsible G.O.P messages

Racist, xenophobic, irresponsible G.O.P messages; America is Pro-America; Congressperson Bachmann kept movie Aladdin from being shown because she thought it promoted paganism & witchcraft; Character assassination of Colin Powell by Limbaugh (reactionary non-thought, blind allegiance); Powell reaching across the aisle, putting Country First...

the pro-america parts of virginia

McCain spokesperson on MSNBC talking about the "real Virginia" that doesn't vote democratic:

If this sounds vaguely familiar, let's listen up to George Allen's "macaca" moment and the "real world of Virginia":

And then there's our chummy VP candidate in North Carolina talking about the "pro-America parts of America":

pass the fried chicken and watermelon

John McCain's bringing back his old mentor Reagan's playbook. Instead of "welfare queens" taking your money, now Obama is going turn the IRS into a "giant welfare agency." Get it. Welfare. Food stamps.

virgina's state gop chair: obama = osama

From Time:
...The McCain campaign invited me to visit Frederick and the Gainesville operation on Saturday morning, to get a first-hand glimpse of its ground game in Prince William County, Virginia, a fast-growing area about 30 miles from Washington, D.C.

With so much at stake, and time running short, Frederick did not feel he had the luxury of subtlety. He climbed atop a folding chair to give 30 campaign volunteers who were about to go canvassing door to door their talking points — for instance, the connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden: "Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon," he said. "That is scary." It is also not exactly true — though that distorted reference to Obama's controversial association with William Ayers, a former 60s radical, was enough to get the volunteers stoked. "And he won't salute the flag," one woman added, repeating another myth about Obama. She was quickly topped by a man who called out, "We don't even know where Senator Obama was really born..."
